HLB Cares: Translating our strategy into tangible initiatives for a Brighter Future

At HLB, we believe that true progress is measured by the positive impact we create for our clients, our people, and the communities we serve. Through HLB Cares, we support our global network to drive meaningful change; aligning our actions with regulatory targets and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Our initiatives are structured around four key pillars, ensuring a holistic approach to sustainability, inclusion, community engagement, and transparency.

Sustainable impact

We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint across the HLB network. Our member firms receive resources and guidance to source greener suppliers and lower carbon emissions. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, such as our partnership with Diligent, we conduct comprehensive, network-wide emissions tracking. This software automates data collection, enables real-time analysis, and supports compliance with leading sustainability frameworks (eg CDP, GRESB, GRI, SASB, and DJSI). By centralising and cleansing data, we generate audit-ready reports and actionable insights, allowing us to benchmark progress and identify areas for improvement-helping us and our clients achieve ambitious sustainability goals.

Inclusive working environment

Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of HLB’s culture. Initiatives like the Women’s Advancement Report and Advocacy Toolkit have helped drive a 7% increase in gender-balanced leadership in 2024. Annual scholarships for women from developing markets, delivered through Emerging Leader Programmes, empower aspiring women leaders to reach their potential. These efforts are guided by our Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, ensuring that every colleague can thrive in an environment that celebrates difference and values innovation.

Community engagement

Making a difference locally and globally is at the core of HLB. In 2024, as part of the #HLBCommunities Day, over 2,200 volunteers from across the network dedicated more than 10,800 hours to community projects worldwide, reflecting our belief that giving reflects our values. For example, HLB Brazil’s month-long #HLBCommunities Day campaign provided vital relief to communities affected by catastrophic flooding, showcasing the power of collective action.

Transparent organisation

We set the standard for governance by providing guidance on best practices, whistleblowing and anti-slavery. Our use of Diligent’s ESG software enables us to centralise data and produce tailored, audit-ready transparency reports. This ensures we meet the highest standards of accountability, covering material topics, management approaches and progress toward our goals.

Social Responsibility: prioritising employee welfare

HLB invests in employee well-being through welfare programmes, competitive salaries, comprehensive health and dental plans, and mandatory health and safety training. Initiatives such as World Mental Health Day and wellness workshops foster resilience and inclusion, while innovations like Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice schemes and wellbeing allowances further support our people.

Reporting and Transparency: Leading by example

Our partnership with Diligent allows us to centralise ESG data and generate transparent, audit-ready reports. This ensures our reporting covers all material topics, management approaches, and progress against our goals, supporting annual reviews and compliance with global standards.
